As-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh..
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE REPUBLICAN TO VOTE IN THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY.
Please see the the information below which I have pulled DIRECTLY from the Virginia State Board of Elections Website.
Can I vote for candidates from different parties?
Virginia is an open primary state which means that any qualified voter can vote in either party's primary election. Virginia does not have party registration in its voter registration process. In other words, citizens do not designate a political party affiliation when registering to vote in Virginia. The only restriction is when more than one party primary is held on the same day, also known as a dual primary. While Virginia election law stipulates that any qualified voter may vote in either political party's primary, no voter may vote in more than one political party's primary on the same election day.

Write-In Votes
Virginia election law (§ 24.2-529) does not permit write-in votes for primary elections. No ballot issued during the Republican Primary on March 6, 2012 will contain an area where a write-in name may be included. In the case of electronic voting equipment, the option for a write-in vote has been disabled. In the case of paper ballots, if a name is written in a blank area on a ballot, or a name is scratched through and another is inserted, it will not register as a vote. In no way will defacement of an official ballot be tallied as a vote for any person other than those candidates currently listed.

ABSENTEE VOTING IS AVAILABLE TODAY. Where do I vote? Am I registered? What does my ballot look like?
