Early voting in Virginia
FAIRFAX COUNTY
Updated for March 3 Presidential Primary
In-Person Absentee Voting literally means:
VOTING EARLIER THAN WAITING FOR ELECTION DAY
Northern Virginia Times & Locations
Vote early, Protect your vote from anything getting in your way on election day: getting too busy, getting sick, changes in plans, bad weather (even flooding), bad traffic, Metro delays, or long Election Day lines.
Almost all voters qualify to vote early!
For example, if on Election Day, you plan to leave your county/city of registration/residence (e.g. Fairfax County) for any period of time for work, school or a personal reason in Arlington (for errands, meeting, appointment, visit or trip) or if you are ill, disabled, if you have a religious event or just have difficulty waiting in line, you qualify to vote early, in-person.
Just go to any of your county’s/city’s Vote Early (in-person absentee) locations listed below, fill out your voting form and select an excuse code that qualifies you. You are not required to provide proof:
There are 17 reasons for anybody to qualify:
Work or Personal Business: On Election Day, you plan to leave your city/county of residence for any amount of time because of:
Code 1C – Work, job, business
Code 1D – Any personal reason (errand, meeting, appointment, class, trip, visit, etc.).
Code 1E – 11-hr combined work-commute within your county. Select only if Code 1C doesn’t apply. But you must state the time you leave and time you return.
College/Military/First Responder:
Code 1A/1B – You or your spouse attend college outside your city/county of residence
Code 6A/6B – You, or dependent/spouse living with you, are active-duty military/merchant marine
Code 1F – You are a first responder
Health Issues or Caregiver:
Code 2A – Disabled, ill, difficulty waiting inline
Code 2B – Primary caregiver for disabled at home
Code 2C – You are pregnant
If you qualify early enough, you may choose to Vote Absentee by Mail, but not both ways. See the topic “ABSENTEE BALLOT (by-mail)” immediately below “VOTING EARLY” to apply for an absentee ballot.
